PROVE- The Breeder Performance Program

PROVE aligns the Mid-Atlantic Goat Association with modern, data-driven breeding expectations while preserving the competitive spirit of the show ring.

This program rewards:

✔️ Accountability

PROVE it — in the ring, on the scale, and on paper.

  • The PROVE Breeder Performance Program is a Mid-Atlantic Goat Association initiative designed to elevate breeding standards, encourage youth participation, and reward exhibitors who demonstrate excellence beyond the show ring.

    PROVE integrates growth performance data, exhibition results, and a finale sale to create a transparent, accountable, and market-relevant program for both youth and open exhibitors.

  • PROVE exists to:

    • Promote responsible breeding and herd development

    • Encourage accurate recordkeeping and data integrity

    • Reward exhibitors who combine phenotype, performance, and management

    • Invest directly in youth development and sustainability

  • Youth Division

    • Must be a MABS member

    • Must be a JABGA member in good standing

    • Animal registered in the youth’s name (Commercial Does require ABGA-NOA papers)

    • Animal must attend 5 or more sanctioned MABS shows

    Open Division

    • Must be a MABS member

    • Must be an ABGA member in good standing

    • ABGA registration required (Commercial Does require ABGA-NOA papers)

    • Animal must attend 5 or more sanctioned MABS shows

    Eligible Animals

    • Percentage Does

    • Fullblood / Purebred Does

    • Commercial Does
      (All animals must have permanent identification.)

  • Each nominated animal is evaluated using a weighted performance composite:

    • Average Daily Gain (ADG) – 40%

    • Weight per Day of Age (WDA) – 30%

    • Body Condition Score (BCS) – 20%

    • Health Stewardship – 10%

    Awards include:

    • Highest Performance Animal (by division)

    • Highest ADG & WDA (division & overall)

    • Best Body Condition Score

    • Health Stewardship Award

    • Performance Composite Champion

    • $100 nomination fee per animal

    • Birth, weaning, and verified show weights required

    • All weigh-ins verified by officials

    • Incomplete or falsified records result in disqualification

  • Top-ranking performance and data animals are offered in the PROVE Finale Sale.

    • 90% of sale proceeds paid to exhibitor

    • 10% supports the Youth Development Program

    • Optional $100 buyout allows exhibitors to retain ownership
